THE PBA’s annual awards will be given in a virtual setting.
In lieu of the annual Leo Awards, PBA commissioner Willie Marcial has said that the top performers of the 2020 PBA Philippine Cup will be feted in a bubble awards ceremony, which will happen on Jan. 17, 2021.
Although the Most Valuable Player award will not be given, there will be a Best Player of the Conference trophy. Contending for the prestigious award are Ginebra’s Stanley Pringle, Phoenix’s Matthew Wright and Calvin Abueva, TNT’s Bobby Ray Parks, TerraFirma’s CJ Perez and NorthPort’s Christian Standhardinger.
Other awards to be given are spots on the Special Team, which is an iteration of the Mythical Five team, the Outstanding Rookie, the Most Improved Player and the Sportsmanship Award.
Marcial added that the PBA Draft this March is also being done virtually. Application for the said event on March 14 is still ongoing with the deadline for filing of application papers on Jan. 27.
So far, this draft class is expected to be a loaded one with Alab Pilipinas standouts Jason Brickman, Jeremiah Grey and Brandon Rosser already formally submitting their papers. Top amateur aces such as Joshua Munzon, Franky Johnson, Alvin Pasaol and Cebuano Santi Santillan have also declared their intention for the draft. (JNP)
