Coaches of the Philippine Basketball Association (PBA) are prohibited from attending the pocket training sessions that is being proposed in preparation of the potential resumption of the 2020 season.
League commissioner Willie Marcial stated that there won’t be any need for the coaches to attend these practices as these are being done with the expressed purpose of getting the players back into playing shape.
“Baka itong practices, wala pang mga coaches. Conditioning lang naman ito,” said Marcial as quoted by the PBA website.
The PBA has already submitted its proposed guidelines for the resumption of team practices to the Inter-Agency Task Force on Emerging Infectious Disease (IATF). It is still awaiting a response.
Those guidelines state that only six people are allowed to attend a practice session — four players, one trainer and a health officer to ensure that all health protocols are being followed.
In addition, the IATF has also been encouraging those over 60 years old to refrain from going out as they are susceptible to the coronavirus. At the moment, there are four PBA head coaches that are more than 60 years old. (JNP)
