THE Commissioner’s Office of the Philippine Basketball Association (PBA) will not be taking the scathing remarks of Gilas Pilipinas program director Tab Baldwin sitting down as league commissioner Willie Marcial is set to sanction Baldwin.
While it remains to be seen whether it will be a fine or a suspension or perhaps even both, what’s certain is that the PBA will be cracking the whip on Baldwin who stated on a recent podcast that there is an apparent double standard when it comes to treating and officiating local players and imports.
Sitting in as guest of the Coaches Unfiltered podcast, Baldwin tackled the one-import format of the PBA and criticized it, saying that it hampers the game’s growth, specifying that the “rules latitude that the imports are given here by the referees and by the administration of the PBA.”
Marcial said the PBA has authority to sanction Baldwin as the latter is listed as an assistant coach under Mark Dickel of the Talk N Text KaTropa.
Marcial also refuted Baldwin’s statements, arguing that the imports argue with game officials just as vehemently as the locals do.
The league commissioner also recommended that if Baldwin has any gripes with how the league is being run, there are proper channels to air his gripes such as talking with Talk N Text governor Ricky Vargas, who also happens to be the current chairman of the PBA. (JNP)
