THE Philippines Basketball Association (PBA) has decided to shelf its games in the Philippine Cup and the D-League Aspirants Cup amidst the rising cases of the coronavirus disease (Covid-19) in the country.

The decision was made during an emergency meeting on Tuesday evening, March 10, 2020. The call was made by league commissioner Willie Marcial and the rest of the PBA board.

This means the scheduled double-header pitting NorthPort and NLEX and Talk N Text Katropa and Phoenix at the Smart Araneta Coliseum on Wednesday evening will no longer push through.

The league also announced that it is suspending operations and is monitoring the situation closely.

Also shelved are PBA D-League Aspirant Cup games and the inaugural PBA 3x3 tournament until further notice.

Called off as well was the first out-of-town game this season between Barangay Ginebra and Blackwater on Saturday in Balanga, Bataan.

The PBA explained that it made the decision with the health and safety of the fans, players, teams, officials and staff in mind. (JNP)
