Bases Conversion and Development Authority (BCDA) president Vince Dizon says the Philippine Basketball Association’s (PBA) impending return to action is a great indicator of the country’s efforts to cope with the new normal presented by this global health crisis.
Dizon is one of the driving forces behind the league’s plan to return to action in a “bubble” setting that will be held at the Clark Freeport and Special Economic Zone in Pampanga. Should the government allow the PBA, the games will start on October 9.
"What better symbol of trying to get back to the new normal than restarting the most important pastime in the Philippines which is basketball," Dizon said during an appearance on Sports Page on TV5.
Dizon also remarked that if the protocols the PBA will implement will prove successful, then perhaps the government will be more amenable to giving the green light to plans like these. Dizon is actually part of the Inter-Agency Task Force on Emerging Infectious Diseases, functioning as deputy chief implementer of the National Action Plan against COVID-19
Dizon said that the BCDA and the Clark Development Corporation would be working hand in hand to create a safe environment for the players, coaches and everyone involved in the PBA’s restart of the stalled Philippine Cup.
The Clark Development Corporation will take care of all the testing of the players, coaches, staff, and everyone involved in the bubble. We will also help them, with the help of our health experts, with the testing protocols,” Dizon added.
The PBA selected Clark to be the host of the PBA’s restart, in part, because of its medical facilities. Dizon also assured that PBA’s playing venue — the Angeles University Foundation gym — will be spic and span.
"Hindi lang po ang Clark, lahat ilalagay natin sa bubble. Lahat ng venues for practice and the games itself, lahat po 'yan naka-bubble. Ibig sabihin, lahat po ng papasok diyan ay kailangan strict. Ang protocols for testing and checking for all clinical symptoms, gagawin po 'yan ng ating health experts at ating mga doctor," he said.
"'Yung ating mga buses ay provided ng Clark. Lahat po 'yan ay sanitized and disinfected. May escorts po tayo from Clark hanggang sa city of Angeles. Tuloy-tuloy po 'yan," Dizon added. (JNP)
