MANILA, Philippines – The Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) said it has deployed some of its personnel and assets to help secure the athletes and other guests of the 30th Southeast Asian (SEA) Games.
In a statement issued on Monday, PCG-National Capital Region Commodore Allan dela Vega said around 1,000 personnel and 25 rigid haul inflatable boats, aluminum boats and small vessels were deployed in La Union and Subic in Zambales to assist in the conduct of surfing and other water sports events.
Some of these assets will also help secure sporting events and accommodation areas of athletes and other delegates in Metro Manila and Batangas.
The PCG added that some of its personnel were also among the 7,899 members of the Task Group Southern Luzon tasked to ensure the safety and security of games to be held in CALABARZON, including in Biñan, Los Baños, and Santa Rosa in Laguna, and Imus and Maragondon in Cavite.
There will also be sporting events in Tagaytay City, as well as in Calatagan, Nasugbu, Tuy, Lemery, Agoncillo, Balayan, Lian, Talisay, Calaca and Laurel in Batangas.
PCG’s K9 contingents were also sent to competition venues for the SEA Games.
“Rest assured that the men and women of PCG will exercise professionalism, commitment, and gallantry in the performance of their respective responsibilities for the seamless conduct of SEA Games 2019 in cooperation with the entire uniformed service group and local government units,” PCG Commandant Vice Admiral Joel Garcia was quoted as saying in the same statement.
The 2019 SEA Games will be held from Nov. 30 to Dec. 11.
