PDEA to go after drug protectors next

THE Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) has warned barangay officials in Central Visayas who are protectors of drug personalities that they are the agency’s next target.

During his visit to the Police Regional Office (PRO) 7 headquarters, PDEA Director General Wilkins Villanueva admitted that there are barangay officials in Central Visayas who are protectors of drug personalities.

Although Villanueva did not name the officials, he did disclose that they are the next target of the agency’s anti-drug operations together with the police officers led by PRO 7 Chief Police Brigadier General Albert Ignatius Ferro.

Villanueva said it was President Rodrigo Duterte’s order to rid the government of officials who are linked to illegal drugs in any way.

The PDEA has a list of barangay officials who are protectors of drug personalities, and the agency is currently monitoring their activities.

Villanueva warned the erring barangay officials that next year will be tougher for them if they continue to protect drug personalities.

Ferro immediately responded to the agency’s call.

Ferro said: “I’m one with them in the fight against illegal drugs and in identifying these supporters, these protectors of illegal drugs, especially those government officials.”

PDEA is also monitoring Cebuano businessman Peter Lim, who is said to be one of the top drug lords in the country.

Villanueva said those who want to report any drug-related activity may do so through the “Isumbong Mo kay Wilkins” Facebook page. (AYB / CCP)
