Peace Covenant

ILOILO CITY - Candidates in this city are urged to uphold the peace covenant.

"If Peace is presence of Truth, Justice, Charity, and Freedom, then it becomes obligatory to all candidates and supporters to conduct the campaign guided by these Gospel values," said Msgr. Meliton Oso during the February 15 signing.

Initiated by the Police Regional Office 6 (PRO-6) and Commission on Elections (Comelec), the peace covenant urged for the conduct of a peaceful and honest elections on May 13.

"Let us all be reminded that black propaganda violates the value of Truth; dirty tricks and bribery violate the value of Justice; mudslinging violates the value of Charity, and vote buying violates the value of Freedom," said Oso, who serves as Jaro Archdiocese coordinator of the Parish Pastoral Council for Responsible Voting (PPCRV).

"If one of these Gospel values is absent, this mid-term elections will never be peaceful," Oso added.

Chief Supt. Agrimero Cruz Jr., PRO-6 director, said the peace covenant will be displayed in highly populated places, including the church and public markets. (Tara Yap)
