THE Philippines booked a ticket to the semifinals in the 2022 Asean Football Federation (AFF) Women’s Championship with a 4-1 victory over Indonesia on July 10 at the Rizal Memorial Stadium in Manila.

Indonesia drew first blood as Carla Bio Pattinasarany hit the back of the net in the 37th minute. It was the first time in the tournament that the Philippines conceded a goal.

The Philippines, however, mounted a comeback after the halftime break led by forward Sarina Bolden, who scored a hat-trick.

Skipper Tahnai Annis equalized with a goal in the 46th minute.

Bolden then gave the Filipinas the lead after beating Indonesian goalkeeper Prihatini from an impressive through pass by Sara Eggsevik.

Bolden continued her onslaught with a goal right in the middle from a pass by Sofia Harrison six minutes later.

Bolden completed her hat-trick with another goal in the 66th minute.

“I am happy with the resiliency of the players on the pitch (after we fell behind), they are ones who picked themselves up and the coach can only do so much. We don’t have a magic wand but we just had to stick to our principles,” Philippines head coach Alen Stajcic said in a report posted at the Philippine Football Federation (PFF) official website. “The players deserve full credit. This resiliency shows the growth of this team.”

Meanwhile, Australia beat Singapore, 4-1, while Thailand outclassed Malaysia, 4-0.

With still a game remaining, the Philippines already advanced to the semifinals.

The Philippines is at the top of Group A with 12 points. Thailand is right behind with 10 points, while Australia is third with seven points. Thailand and Australia are battling for the other semifinal spot from Group A.
