The Philippines’s representative, Micca Rosal, was hailed best in national costume and earned a spot in the Top 10 at this year’s Miss Aura International held in Antalya, Turkey on Sunday (Sept 25).

Rosal’s stunning LuzViMinda ensemble, designed by Jomar Peralta, was inspired by the country’s three major island groups, earlier commended by netizens and the local pageant community.

In a September 22 Facebook post, Rosal detailed how the outfit was crafted.

“LuzViMinda is a perfect representation of the Philippines with cultural differences and individualism but tied as one united and progressive nation,” she said.

To represent Luzon, Rosal said that the costume’s Bahag silhouette pays tribute to the clothing of some indigenous tribes of the Cordilleras in Northern Luzon and “symbolizes protection, power and valor.”

As a nod to the Visayas, the ensemble also celebrates the Ati-Atihan Festival of Aklan, Panay Island, which is annually held every third Sunday of January. The said festival honors the Aetas, who are considered to be the first settlers of the Visayas as well as the Philippines.

“This costume mimics the festival’s representation of optimism, resilience, and the joy of our people by using festive patterns and materials with bright colors,” explained the beauty queen.

Similarly, Rosal’s headpiece honors the Muslim princess of the Maranao tribe of Mindanao, also known as the “The People of the Lake,” to “commemorate their efforts for culture and heritage preservation.”

“Overall, this modern Filipiñana mainly employs the colors of the Philippine flag, and the three circles in her backdrop stand as the stars and the fan as the sun,” she added.

The costume received huge traction after it was featured by well-known pageant website “Missosology” on Facebook, with 9,200 reactions, 274 comments, and 191 shares.

It was also recognized by Pageanthology 101.

Meanwhile, Indonesia’s Riskyana Hidayat was declared Miss Aura International 2022 during the coronation night, besting 33 candidates. Filipina beauty queen Alexandra Faith Garcia previously held the crown.

Venezuela took home the first runner-up, followed by Ukraine, Romania, and Bulgaria.

Previously called Miss Kremer International, the international pageant was established in 2006 in Turkey. It was only the second time that the Philippines participated in the event.
