MANILA, Philippines – The Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) on Wednesday said it has rescued 51 people onboard a motorbanca that encountered engine trouble in the waters of Masbate.
Of those rescued individuals, 43 were identified as passengers while the remaining eight were the vessel’s crew members.
The PCG said the motorbanca, which departed from Masbate Fish Port in Masbate City, was bound for Claveria when it encountered engine trouble along the waters of Baleno and Aroroy in Masbate.
While troubleshooting the engine, one of the crew members noticed its automotive oil leaking to the sea water, resulting in engine failure.
Personnel from the Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council in Aroroy assisted in rescuing the passengers, according to the PCG.
“The passengers and crew members, who were all in good physical condition, were brought to Aroroy Port in Masbate for further assistance and necessary investigation,” it said.
