MANILA, Philippines – All farming and fishing activities will be allowed to continue during the enhanced community quarantine in Luzon, provided that they operate on skeleton force and observe social distancing measures, according to guidelines released by the government Wednesday.

The resolution released on March 25 by the Inter-Agency Task Force for the Management of Emerging Infectious Diseases (IATF-EID) also states that all healthy farmers, and farm workers, fishers, and agri-business personnel will be exempted from quarantine restrictions.

Agricultural supply stores and veterinary clinics will also be allowed to operate during the quarantine period, the resolution said.

The IATF also reiterated that the movement of all supplies used for agriculture, including food packaging and manufacturing materials will remain unhampered. It also reactivated the Local Price Coordination Council.

The government also ordered the upscaling of programs for food availability, accessibility and price stability, as well as the Department of Agriculture’s Ahon Lahat, Pagkain, Sapat (ALPAS) kontra COVID-19.
