For the first time in 18 years, the country’s top tennis players will have a tournament they can consider a major one.
From March 24 to 30, the country will be hosting an International Tennis Federation (ITF) Men’s Futures tournament at the newly-renovated Rizal Memorial Tennis Courts.
While the tournament offers only $15,000 in prize money, the event is expected to attract the best from the region and that will be a challenge to local campaigners.
The organizing Philippine Tennis Federation is targeting a 32-man main draw field in the singles division and a 16-pair field in the doubles.
Deadline for registration is on March 22, with qualifying rounds scheduled on March 23 to 24.
The event augurs well to the country’s hosting of the Asia Oceania Zone Group II semifinal tie where the PH Davis Cuppers battle the Pakistan side on April 4 to 6.
