PH suffers 3rd straight loss in AFC U17 Asian Cup Qualifiers

The Philippines failed to qualify for next year’s Asian Football Confederation (AFC) U17 Asian Cup after suffering its third defeat in the qualifiers.

The Philippines suffered a 3-1 loss to Jordan at the Mohammad International Stadium in Zarqa City, Jordan on Oct. 6.

After a scoreless opening half, Jordan finally found its mark in the 58th minute with a goal by Abdelrahman Alkhdour.

The Philippines, however, equalized in the 78th minute with a goal by Bacchus Dwyn Ekberg.

Jordan refused to get humiliated in its home pitch and scored two goals in the waning moments of the match. Ibrahim Mohammad Sabra hit the back of the net in the 86th minute and Amin Husam Abukhalifa added another one in two minutes of added time.

Meanwhile, Japan moved up to the top spot of Group A with a 7-0 thrashing of Turkemnistan.

Homare Tokuda lead Japan’s charge with four goals, Chukunierreshota Kofie scored a brace and Gaku Nawat had a goal.

Japan is at the top with six points, followed by Jordan with four points. Turkmensitan is third with four points but is behind on goal difference, while Syria is fourth with two points. The Philippines is at the bottom with no points.
