Pharrell defends 'spiritual Beatles hat'

Pharrell Williams thinks John Lennon would have loved his Grammys hat.

The singer's Vivienne Westwood headgear was a big topic of conversation on the Grammy Awards red carpet Sunday night.

Pharrell can definitely imagine some members of the Beatles wearing the huge brown hat themselves.

"Sure, I could see John [Lennon] in his painted Rolls Royce... when he was going through his moment of Eastern religion. You know, that spiritual trek and journey that they went through - I can see him doing that," he told Entertainment Tonight.

Pharrell performed Here Comes the Sun with Brad Paisley at The Night That Changed America: A Grammy Salute to the Beatles. Paul McCartney and Ringo Starr were present at Monday's event, much to the musician's delight.

Brad offered his opinion on Pharrell's choice in hats, poking fun at his style. According to the country star, it wasn't exactly a cool fashion and looked like something a cowboy chef would wear while making dinner.

"It was sort of the cook look though. That cowboy hat was kinda the guy who would cook the beans for the rest of the guys out riding the range," Brad joked.

Pharrell's headpiece is so popular fans have created a Twitter account in honour of it named @Pharrellhat.

He is in awe over how popular his fashion choice has become, but he reveals he was also instantly captured by its singular design from the outset.

"And now [my hat has an] Instagram [account], too," he marvelled to The Hollywood Reporter. "It's a Vivienne Westwood Buffalo hat from when she was with Malcolm McLaren. It's not vintage - I would've been really stylin' if I had one from the '80s."

North Korea fired two short-range ballistic missiles into the sea and vowed "merciless" retaliation Monday as the US and South Korea kicked off joint military drills denounced by Pyongyang as recklessly confrontational. The annual exercises always trigger a surge in military tensions and warlike rhetoric on the divided peninsula, and analysts saw the North's missile tests as a prelude to a concerted campaign of sabre-rattling. "If there is a particularly sharp escalation, we could see the …
