Dwight Ramos prevails over Thirdy Ravena as Toyama rip San-En

Dwight Ramos outdueled Thirdy Ravena as the Toyama Grouses dispatched the San-En NeoPhoenix 92-77 in the 2021-22 Japan B. League at the Toyama City Gymnasium on Saturday (13 November). 

In a battle between two Gilas Pilipinas stalwarts, Ramos gained the upper hand with 15 points, three rebounds and one assist to help lead the Grouses to a rousing win over the NeoPhoenix and Ravena, who put up a 13-point, three-dime effort.

The victory made it a two-game winning run for Toyama and elevated their win-loss record to 3-10. San-En, on the other hand, absorbed their fifth consecutive loss, slipping to an identical 3-10 slate.  

The Grouses rode on a strong surge in the third frame, where Julian Mavunga and Joshua Smith initiated an 18-5 surge that overturned a 39-40 deficit into a 71-54 advantage. From then on, San-En could not regain the momentum as the home team went on to seal the victory.

Mavunga asserted his all-around dominance, scattering 22 points, seven rebounds, six assists and two steals, while Smith complimented him well with a near double-double line of 21 points and nine boards. 

For the NeoPhoenix, Robert Carter took charge with 16 points, seven rebounds and six assists in a lost cause, while Justin Knox delivered 11 points, six boards, two assists and two steals in the tough defeat.  

Ramos and Ravena will clash once more on Sunday as Toyama and San-En collide anew.
