Dwight Ramos steered the Toyama Grouses to a breakthrough in the 2021/22 Japan B. League, after a morale-boosting 82-67 win over Osaka Evessa at the Toyama City Gymnasium on Wednesday (27 October).
Ramos flashed his offensive brilliance as he delivered a game-high 20 points to go along with six rebounds, three assists and a steal for the Grouses, who arrested an eight-game losing skid.
Toyama wrested control in the early going with a 27-15 edge at the end of the opening period, but Osaka managed to trim the deficit down to two at the half, 39-41.
Following a long sequence of lead changes, the match was tied 65-all with less than seven minutes remaining in regulation. From then on, the Grouses shifted into a higher gear as they went on 15-2 tear to leave Evessa in the dust.
Julian Mavunga provided ample support for Ramos as he unloaded 16 points, nine of which coming in the fourth quarter. He also supplemented eight rebounds and six assists in the winning cause.
Joshua Smith, for his part, put up a near double-double effort of 15 points and nine boards for Toyama, which now stands at a 1-8 slate.
Osaka, on the other hand, was led by Perry Ellis and his 13-point outing in the loss that dropped them to a 3-6 card.
Ramos and the Grouses will attempt to carry over momentum when they collide with the Kawasaki Brave Thunders on 6 November.
