Dwight Ramos and the Toyama Grouses could not avert a late collapse, falling to the Ryukyu Golden Kings 80-83 in the 2021/22 Japan B. League at the Toyama Seibu Sports Center on Sunday (24 October).

The Grouses squandered a 67-55 lead in the fourth period, allowing the Golden Kings to pick up steam late and seize a 77-73 advantage after a momentum-swinging 20-6 run.

With less than three minutes remaining, Ramos, who poured out 12 points and six rebounds in the contest, did everything he could to keep Toyama in the fight, as he scored from inside and out while delivering fine defensive plays down the stretch.

The Golden Kings led 82-77 with 18 seconds left on the clock, before Toshiki Kamisawa sank three free throws to bring the Grouses within two.

Jack Cooley then split his shots from the charity stripe with 10 ticks left on the clock that kept Toyama within three, but Kamisawa and Ramos could not knock down their potential game-tying shots from deep as time expired.

Hayato Maki spearheaded the Golden Kings with 15 points, while Ruichi Kishimito anchored the spirited comeback with 11 of his 14 points coming in the final quarter.

Naoki Tashiro supplemented 12 points, five assists, four boards and two steals in the thrilling heist, where Cooley chimed in a near double-double of 11 points and nine rebounds as Ryukyu climbed to a 6-2 slate.

On the other hand, Toyama remained winless with a 0-8 record as Julian Mavunga saw his double-double of 24 points and 10 rebounds, to go with seven assists and two steals, go for naught.

Ramos and the Grouses will attempt to barge into the win column when they collide with the Osaka Evessa on Wednesday.
