Korean heartthrob Hwang In-youp held his first fan meeting in Manila on June 19, during which he shared more about the time that he spent in the past living in Davao.

"I’m thankful for this great love I have been receiving from the Philippines, which is especially close to my heart because this is a country I have lived in,” the Inquirer quoted him as saying at a press conference at New Frontier Theater. "I find this love fascinating and I’m thankful for it."

Hwang's breakthrough role was that in the K-drama True Beauty, and he also recently appeared in The Sound Of Magic and Why Her?

He lived and studied in Davao City for four years before he began his showbiz career in South Korea. He attended the Philippine Nikkei Jin Kai International School and the Philippine Women’s College of Davao, where he earned a degree in fashion design in 2012.

This was Hwang's first trip back to the Philippines in 10 years. The 31-year-old actor flew here on Saturday night and was greeted by fans at the airport. “I’m very happy to be back in a country I love. I arrived around 10:30 p.m. and I was surprised to see fans waiting for me to see me. I’m very excited to be back, do things and see my fans,” he said.

"It has been 10 years since I saw my friends but I still keep in touch with them," he added. "Some of them are now professors, and some of them are now living and working abroad. I love Manila but Davao has a special place in my heart because I lived there."

Hwang said that the things he missed about the Philippines were its weather and food.

He found the weather here pleasant because it was drier than in Korea, even though it's hot.

The model-turned actor also shared that he used to eat at Jollibee and Chowking when he was a student.

“I also had an English tutor who made me a mango float. Philippine pineapples are also very delicious. And when my friends found out that I was going to the Philippines, they asked me to bring them some dried mangoes. I also liked kwek-kwek, which I used to eat on the street,” said Hwang.

Before bidding farewell to his Filipino fans, Hwang said that he looked forward to the day that his fans here could spend time with him in Korea.

Hwang's co-star in True Beauty, Cha Eun-woo, is also holding a fan meet in Manila on August 6.
