Success continues to come in the way of Jaja Santiago as she pulled off one historical achievement after another in the 2021 Premier Volleyball League (PVL) Open Conference on Friday (August 13).
Moments after leading Chery Tiggo to the Open Conference title at the expense of Creamline, Santiago, who won a Japan V. League title with Ageo Medics in March 2021, was crowned the Most Valuable Player of the Conference and the Finals, as well as the Best Middle Blocker at the PCV Socio-Civic and Cultural Center in Bacarra, Ilocos Norte.
The 6-foot-5 stalwart, who normed 25.3 points in the three-game championship series, averaged 14.82 points up until the second game of the quarterfinals, the cut-off point for the conference awards.
Santiago also stood above all in spikes at 122 on a 49.8 percent success rate, led the league in service aces with 18, and finished third in blocks with 23 as she edged out the decorated Creamline star Alyssa Valdez, who was awarded one of the two Best Outside Spikers, for the Conference MVP plum.
Myla Pablo, who steered Petro Gazz to a bronze-medal finish, emerged as the other Best Outside Spiker while her teammates Ria Meneses and Kath Arado captured the Best Middle Blocker and Best Libero trophies, respectively.
Jia Morado of Creamline took home her sixth Best Setter award in the PVL as she fanned out a league-best 317 excellent sets while Kat Tolentino of Choco Mucho wound up as the Best Opposite Spiker.
