Marck Espejo and FC Tokyo completed a two-game series sweep of Bryan Bagunas and Oita Miyoshi after pulling off a 25-18, 25-20, 25-23 win in the 2021 Japan V. League at the Showa Denko Sports Center on Saturday (6 November).
Coming off a morale-boosting 25-17, 25-18, 25-22 conquest a day before, Espejo made sure his side sustained momentum as he delivered 11 points built on eight attacks, two blocks and an ace to help lead Tokyo to back-to-back victories for a 2-6 record.
Bagunas, on the other hand, had a quiet day in the office, finishing with an uncharacteristic one-point output for the Weisse Adler who continued to trudge with a 1-7 slate.
FC Tokyo seized control from start to finish as Oita Miyoshi failed to snatch even a set after struggling to build and sustain momentum.
The reinforcements spelled the most difference for the Tokyo-based club team as Espejo and Jonas Kvalen carried the cudgels throughout the match.
Kvalen topped the scoring charts with 18 points anchored on 16 attacks and two blocks. He even came through in crunch time, nailing the finishing blows that sealed the fate of Oita Miyoshi.
On the other hand, Kenta Koga was the lone Weisse Adler in double figures with 11 points, as Emerson Rodriguez only managed to score eight in deflating loss.
Espejo and FC Tokyo will aim to keep the momentum rolling when they collide with the JT Thunders next weekend.
Meanwhile, Bagunas and Oita Miyoshi shall next face JTEKT Stings in a bid to arrest their seven-game losing slide.
