The Philippines was named among the "40 Most Beautiful Countries in the World" in an article last month by luxury and lifestyle travel magazine, Conde Nast Traveler.
The ranking by Conde Nast considers the natural resources of countries, including places that "have it all", from tropical rainforests to staggering waterfalls.
Writer Caitlin Morton said, "There are more than 7,000 islands in the Philippines, and they easily number among the most beautiful in the world. The Puerto-Princesa Subterranean River National Park in Palawan encompasses mangrove forests, one of the world’s most impressive cave systems, and an underground river. The Chocolate Hills of Bohol Island consist of an estimated 1,776 grass-covered domes that are mysteriously uniform in shape. The rice terraces of both Banaue and the Philippine Cordilleras provide panoramic views of every shade of green imaginable."
Conde Nast Traveler compiled its list by pulling the top 30 countries in the the World Economic Forum Travel & Tourism Development Index's Natural Resources section, then polling Conde Nast editors for their personal picks of other countries with outstanding natural beauty.
International travel site Big 7 ranked Palawan second in their “Travel’s Top 50 Best Islands in the World” list, while Cebu bagged the 25th spot.
The travel site praised Palawan for its “white sandy beaches and tropical jungle”, specifically highlighting El Nido, a cluster of 45 islands just off the tip of Palawan, which is famous for its Secret Lagoon.
According to Big 7 travel Cebu Island is "a tropical paradise in the Philippines, consisting of Cebu Island and 167 other islands in the Visayas." It described whale shark diving in the south of Cebu as an “unforgettable experience.”
