Thirdy Ravena scored a win over his elder brother Kiefer as the San-En NeoPhoenix prevailed over the Shiga Lakestars, 101-96, in an overtime thriller in the 2021-22 Japan B. League at the Ukaruchan Arena on Sunday (3 October).
The younger Ravena shone with 21 points to go with seven rebounds and five assists as he helped San-En stage a comeback en route to a breakthrough win.
Staring down a deficit as high as 15 points in the third quarter, the NeoPhoenix buckled down to business in the fourth, where Thirdy scored nine crucial points to drag his team back into contention and force overtime.
San-En raced out of the gates in the extra period, unloading seven unanswered baskets to build a commanding 92-85 lead.
Kiefer managed to whittle away at the deficit when he scored a deuce at the free throw line, but Thirdy wasted no time restoring order with a clutch triple that gave the NeoPhoenix a 97-89 advantage with 2:17 left on the clock.
San-En never looked back from that point onward as they preserved the lead until the final buzzer.
It was a strong bounce-back effort for the NeoPhoenix, who suffered a late-game collapse against the Lakestars in their season opener on Saturday.
Elias Harris supported Thirdy with a double-double production of 18 points and 10 rebounds laced with three steals, two assists and two blocks, while Robert Carter made his presence felt from deep with three triples en route to a 17-point showing.
On the other hand, Kiefer continued to show his value for the Lakestars with 20 points and seven assists while Ovie Soko poured out a 20-point, 12-rebound double-double performance that went for naught.
Thirdy and San-En shall next face Kobe Paras and the Niigata Albirex BB on Saturday (October 9) while Kiefer and Shiga will take on the Ibaraki Robots.
