Putting a positive spin on a nickname used against her by online bashers, Vice President Leni Robredo embraced the “Leni Lugaw” brand, with her office serving porridge to attendees of her declaration of candidacy.

Those covering her announcement at the Quezon City Reception House posted photos of the porridge bowls being served to reporters.

Earlier, Robredo’s spokesperson lawyer Barry Gutierrez said that she will make an "important announcement," leading some to speculate that she will soon launch her presidential campaign. Prior to her announcement, Robredo had been meeting with other opposition leaders to try to forge an alliance against the Duterte administration.

Robredo’s detractors used the moniker “Leni Lugaw” to put her down after her supporters supposedly sold rice porridge to raise funds for her vice-presidential campaign in 2016.

Her trolls began calling her "Lugaw Queen" and "Leni Lugaw" when pictures of her serving porridge made rounds on social media.

Robredo took this in stride and has since embraced the tag, serving porridge to underserved areas.
