'Walis tambo' spotted during US Capitol riot
While the world watches a violent mob of Trump supporters storm the US Capitol building Wednesday, eagled-eyed netizens were quick to spot what appears to be a “walis tambo,” or a broom that is common in Filipino households, being paraded by one of the protesters.
The surreal scene was captured by AFP photographer Saul Loeb, and quickly went viral.
Naturally, Philippine Twitterverse was swept away by the spectacle of something so Filipino in the midst of the riot in the United States capital.
The walis tambo and upside-down flag is certainly the kind of Filipino representation we never asked for. https://t.co/CkbQt02ndZ

US President Trump exhorted his supporters to protest the congressional certification of the Electoral College vote in Washington – a process that would seal President-elect Joe Biden’s victory. The angry mob stormed the US Capitol, forcing their way into Congressional chambers and forcing lawmakers and staff to flee.
