The Philippines said Tuesday it recognizes the National Transitional Council (NTC) as the legitimate representative of the Libyan people.
“The Philippines and Libya share a history of excellent relations based on friendship, understanding, and mutual respect," the Department of Foreign Affairs said in a statement issued Tuesday evening.
“The Philippines hopes to be able to contribute to the rebuilding of the new Libya in the form of Filipino professionals in the construction, energy and medical fields," the department said.
Manila also thanked “the Libyan people for keeping Filipinos in Libya safe throughout the conflict."
The Philippines “hopes that [the NTC] will lead [Libya] during this period of transition... and hopes that it will lead the country towards peace and stability," the DFA said. — VS, GMA News
