Phoenix looks to clinch top-4 finish in PBA Philippine Cup

The Phoenix Super LPG Fuel Masters will be looking to end the elimination round on a victorious note when they tangle with the Rain or Shine Elasto Painters in the closing day of the elimination round of the PBA Philippine Cup on Wednesday, November 11, at the Angeles University Foundation Sports Arena and Cultural Complex in Pampanga.

That game is at 6:45 p.m., capping off another quadruple-header that starts with the clash between NLEX and TerraFirma at 10 a.m. That will be followed by the duels between Meralco and NorthPort at 1 p.m., and Magnolia and Blackwater at 4 p.m.

The Fuel Masters are currently in second place, holding a 7-3 (win-loss) record and a win versus the E-Painters would assure them of the second seed and a twice-to-beat advantage in the quarterfinals.

Phoenix head coach Topex Robinson said he’d like his team to play well, regardless of what’s at stake.

"Sa amin we'd keep on playing lang, kung sino man, whatever is at stake," said Robinson. "Kasi, as of now, hindi pa rin decided kung ano magiging standing. Ang maganda lang nito, last kaming maglalaro so more or less makikita namin natitirang scenario. But whatever happens we control our destiny."

On the other hand, Rain or Shine is expected to go all out with a top four finish still being a possibility. The top four finishers in the elimination round will gain a twice-to-beat advantage over their opponents in the next round.

How the E-Painters’ legs will be, though, is another issue as they are coming off a tough 80-74 win over TNT on Tuesday evening.

"We're still looking at tomorrow's game because I think there's still a possibility that we could still end up in the top four," Rain or Shine head coach Caloy Garcia said after their game against the Tropang Giga. (JNP)
