The Phoenix Super LPG Fuel Masters and the TNT Tropang Giga will be looking to book their tickets to the semifinals when they clash with their respective opponents in the Philippine Basketball Association (PBA) Philippine Cup quarterfinals on Saturday at the Angeles University Foundation Sports Arena in Pampanga.
The second-seeded Phoenix will take on the streaking Magnolia Hotshots at 6:45 p.m. while the third-seed TNT battles the Alaska Aces at 4 p.m.
Phoenix and TNT will be armed with a twice-to-beat advantage over their opponents by virtue of their top-four finish at the end of the elimination round.
The Fuel Masters almost missed out on getting a spot in the top four as they trailed Rain or Shine by 14 in the fourth quarter. Fortunately, they were able to get their bearings together in time to pull off a 90-88 win that catapulted them to the second seed.
Phoenix will seek a repeat of their 91-84 victory over Magnolia in their lone bout in the elimination round.
Magnolia, on the other hand, will look to extend their six-game winning streak and in the process, keep their season alive.
Meanwhile, TNT is hoping Cebuano Roger Pogoy can get hot once more, much like he did in their 100-95 win over Alaska on November 10. In that game, the pride of Talisay City exploded for a career-high 45 points spiked by 10 three-pointers. (JNP)
