9 Sep – Pia Wurtzbach is urging everybody to cast their vote in the next election, following the latest news that President Rodrigo Duterte has pardoned United States Marine Lance Cpl. Joseph Scott Pemberton, who was convicted in 2014 for killing Filipina transgender Jennifer Laude.
On 8 September, the former Miss Universe tweeted her feelings about the issue, saying that everything seemed to be getting worse the more she reads the news.
"And now this? Let's all make sure we register to vote for the next elections. Each one of us," she added.
In her previous tweet, Wurtzbach, who is a firm supporter of the transgender community, repeatedly wrote the words #TransLivesMatter, and stressed, "I'll never get tired of saying this..."
"Trans rights are human rights. PERIOD!" she added in another post.
On 7 September, Duterte defended his decision in pardoning Pemberton, saying that the country did not treat the latter fairly when one considers his "good character", adding that he has even discussed the matter with Executive Secretary Salvador Medialdea and Justice Secretary Menardo Guevarra.
