DIPOLOG CITY, Zamboanga del Norte (PIA) - Hundreds of students from the two campuses of Jose Rizal Memorial State University in Zamboanga del Norte have responded to the call for volunteerism as the Presidential Communication Operations Office recently launched the "Pilipinas Natin" forum in the province. June G. Joson, overall coordinator of the project, said Pilipinas Natin is a campaign for volunteerism that thrives on the people's continuing response to the call for change. Joson, who represented Jose Marie M. Oquiñana, undersecretary for Special Concerns of the PCOO, cited the importance of love of country and volunteerism in "reviving the once beautiful Philippines that we had."

C.d.O CONFERENCE

CAGAYAN DE ORO CITY, Misamis Oriental (PIA) - Some 500 delegates from Mindanao's six administrative regions are expected at the 11th Human Resource and Skills Development (HRSD) conference and exhibits on August 6 -8. The gathering of stakeholders from the public and private technical-vocational education and training (TVET) institutions, Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA) officials and training center chiefs, TVET students, graduates, and technopreneurs, industry partners and government agencies will be held at the Atrium and Cinema 3 of SM City here.

PROMOTING PANGASIUS

DAVAO CITY (PIA) - The Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) in Davao region has called on stakeholders to actively participate in the promotion of pangasius fish as a family staple. During the Pangasius Culture Management Seminar held here recently, DTI-Davao regional director Marizon S. Loreto, stressed a need for an intensive marketing plan to make the public aware that pangasius fish is already available in the local market. Merlyn Damaso, a food processor from ComVal, said unlike the catfish, pangasius can be part of the family's daily menu.

CORN TECHNOLOGY

KORONADAL CITY, South Cotabato (PIA) - The Department of Agriculture (DA 12) recently launched corn techno showcase or corn derby in Barangay Malungon, Sarangani Province as part of the agency's initiative in promoting corn in the market. Central Mindanao Integrated Agricultural Research Center (CEMIARC) Head Lorna Vilbar said the demonstration of modern technology in corn production is important as it helps farmers grow healthy plants resulting to better harvest. A hectare of land was used for the techno demo where hybrid and open pollinated variety of corn were planted. "DA 12 will supply corn planting materials and inputs like fertilizers and pesticides to farmers to further enhance corn production in Region 12" Vilbar informed.

VEGGIE CONGRESS

BUTUAN CITY, Caraga (PIA) - The 10th National Vegetable Congress was recently held at the Balanghai Hotel and Convention Center here with the theme "Strengthen and Sustain Safe and Quality Vegetable Production for Market Competitiveness Amidst Climate Change." Guest of honor and keynote speaker was Department of Agriculture Secretary Proceso J. Alcala, who approved majority of the resolutions presented including the enhanced access of farmers and fisher folks to credit, the conduct of trainers' training, and the financial support of not less than R500,000 to the annual vegetable congress. Mayor Ferdinand M. Amante Jr., revealed aplan to put up a 500-hectare organic farming village in Brgy. Salvacion and shared his vision of making Butuan as the "Green and Organic Capital in Mindanao."
