18 Jan – Another Pinay beauty has won a beauty pageant, although this time in a different country.
As reported on Brussels Times, 22-year-old Angeline Flor Pua, who was born in Antwerp, was recently named the new Miss Belgium, despite several criticisms about her not being the correct representation of a Belgian beauty.
The Sino-Filipino Flor Pua, whose parents both hail from the Philippines, stated that she was surprised when her name was announced.
"I was not expecting this at all and I still cannot quite believe it. It was as if I was dreaming," she said.
On the other hand, in an interview with ABS-CBN, Flor Pua said that it took her a lot of hard work before she was able to win the crown, which is why it's disheartening to hear criticisms that she does not represent the true Belgium beauty.
"Before joining the Miss Belgium national pageant, we have to first join the regional pageant. I represented Antwerp and we were 35 candidates. I won Miss Antwerp and People's Choice award. It's difficult to collect votes, you know. You have to talk to people even if you don't know them, you have to make them feel like you deserve to win," she said.
Flor Pua added that while she may have Filipino blood in her, she was born and raised in Belgium, and that even her parents met while they were both in the country.
"I don't see why I can't be Miss Belgium," she said.
