Pinay earns shot at IBF minimumweight belt

CARLEANS Rivas earned a shot at a world title as she challenges Costa Rican star Yokasta Valle for her International Boxing Federation (IBF) Female minimumweight belt on Feb. 8, 2020 in Costa Rica.

Rivas came off a good 2019 after winning both her fights with PHL champion Floryvic Montero.

She beat by unanimous decision to win the RP Female flyweight belt on March 8, 2019 and then beat her again by split decision in their rematch seven months later.

This is the 31-year-old Rivas’ biggest fight to date.

She has fought but lost to the likes of current World Boxing Organization (WBO) Female light flyweight champion Tenkai Tsunami, and former world title challengers Tamao Ozawa and Jessebelle Pagaduan.

Rivas, a clear underdog, is 8-6-4, while Valle is 17-2 with eight knockouts. (EKA)
