Pirates score two upsets in playoff stage

FIFTH-SEED Pirates scored two upset wins over the weekend to barge into the finals of the Casa Mira Basketball League Season 2.

The Pirates squeaked past Saging Warriors, which had an outright semi-final spot for finishing first in the elimination stage, 68-67, on March 8, 2020 at the Casa Mira Basketball court in Minglanilla, Cebu.

Jason Sebuco led the Pirates with15 points, Johnarie Alquilos added 12 and Nepnep Cardosa chipped in 10. Lindon Gara scored 15 markers in a losing effort by the Warriors.

Julius Albores had 14, John Herrero contributed 11 and Ivan Candaleza added 10. The Pirates earlier beat No. 4 seed Reapers, 118-105, in the quarterfinals.

The Pirates will face No. 2 seed Ninjas in the championship game on March 15. The Ninjas outclassed the Generals, 96-77, in the other semifinals game.

Jay Ellacer spearheaded the Ninjas’ charge with 23 points. Dewey Ynot alos scored 21, Emilio Aninon had 12 and Artwell Rentuma chipped in 10.

Bong Base scored 21 for the Generals, Kenneth Dono added 15 and Apollo Base had 11. (EKA)
