“MAGIC” Mike Plania challenges fellow highly ranked super bantamweight Ra’esse Aleem for his World Boxing Organization (WBO) NABO super bantamweight strap on Monday, Sept. 5, 2022 (PH time) at the Arena in Los Angeles, California.

Plania tipped the scales at the 122-pound super bantamweight limit, while Aleem weighed a bit lighter at 121.5 pounds.

The 25-year-old Plania wants to beat Aleem and hopes to earn a world title shot. He’s currently ranked No. 2 by the WBO, No. 4 by the International Boxing Federation (IBF) and No. 13 in both the World Boxing Association (WBA) and the World Boxing Council (WBC).

Since suffering his first career defeat in the hands of Juan Carlos Payano in 2018, Plania won 11 straight fights that included a majority decision win over highly touted Joshua Greer Jr.

Like Plania, the 32-year-old Aleem is also closing in on a world title shot. He’s rated No. 6 by the WBO, No. 8 by the WBC and No. 12 both by the WBA and the IBF.

Aleem won the interim version of the WBA super bantamweight title after an 11th-round technical knockout of Vic Pasillas last year. He won the WBO NABO super bantamweight strap with a majority decision over Eduardo Baez also last year.

Plania is 26-1 with 13 knockouts, while Aleem is 19-0 with 12 knockouts.
