“MAGIC” Mike Plania made an impressive return on United States soil with a first round stoppage of former world title challenger Ricardo Nuñez on Nov. 21, 2021 at the Manuel Artime Community Center Theater in Miami, Florida.

Plania targeted Nuñez’s body early, landing with his left jab. Nuñez landed a huge overhand right that got Plania’s attention.

Later in the round, Plania connected with a right straight that wobbled Nuñez. He swarmed Nuñez with a series of punches before the referee saw enough and stopped the fight at the 2:41 mark of the opening round.

The 24-year-old Plania is 26-1 with 13 knockouts, while Nuñez lost his seventh straight fight and dropped to 29-13 with 23 knockouts.

This was the first time that Plania fought in the US since his majority decision win over Joshua Greer Jr. in 2020 in Las Vegas.

Plania is closing in on a world title shot in the super bantamweight division. He’s currently rated No. 4 by the World Boxing Organization (WBO), No. 5 by the World Boxing Association (WBA), No. 9 by the International Boxing Federation (IBF) and No. 15 by the World Boxing Council (WBC).
