PNoy assures justice for victims of media killings on anniv of Maguindanao massacre

TAGAYTAY CITY - On the third anniversary of the Maguindanao massacre, President Benigno Aquino III assured justice for all victims of media killings.

"In cases of media killings for example, we in government are demanding the apprehension of suspects and the filing of charges that stick, resolving injustice for all involved," Aquino said in a speech delivered during Friday's Media Nation Summit in Tagaytay.

He likewise said that in other cases of violence against the media, the government has "taken affirmative and just action."

He cited as an example a governor who was suspended for assaulting a broadcast journalist.

"More than anything the protection of all journalists included relies on the fair and impartial dispensation of justice," he said.

But aside from this, the President said that the courts must also work efficiently to help resolve such cases.

"As the saying goes, justice delayed is justice denied," he said.

"We must have courts that are impartial and fair in the verdicts they hand out. If the courts demonstrate impunity at the top then the lowest regional trial courts will follow suit. This is why I’ve been so focused on reforming our justice system," he added.

However, there was no categorical reference to the Maguindanao massacre during his speech. –KG, GMA News
