PHILIPPINE National Police (PNP) Chief Archie Gamboa ordered on Wednesday, January 22, all health services units to coordinate with the Department of Health (DOH) amid the novel coronavirus scare in Cebu City.
PNP spokesperson Brigadier General Bernard Banac said the order was directed at PNP Health Service director Brigadier General John Luglug and all the health unit commanders nationwide.
Banac said all police commanders were also ordered to assist DOH in locating individuals who may carry the virus.
“They have been given instructions to ensure the availability of PNP personnel to assist the DOH in containing possible public health hazards posed by this virus,” Banac said in a statement.
As of Wednesday, January 22, reports said the 2019 novel coronavirus (2019 nCoV) has afflicted more than 400 and killed nine.
There has been no confirmed nCoV cases in the Philippines, but the DOH is monitoring a five-year-old child who tested positive for coronavirus.
The child traveled from Wuhan City, China to Cebu and was brought to a hospital for manifesting flu-like symptoms.
Samples from the child have been sent to China to determine the coronavirus strain that made him ill. (SunStar Philippines)
