MANILA, Philippines — Philippine National Police (PNP) chief Oscar Albayalde awarded PO1 William Cristobal with the ‘Medalya ng Papuri’ during the flag raising ceremony at Camp Crame on Monday (February 11).
PO1 Cristobal is the police officer who was splashed with a cup of taho (soy pudding) by Chinese national, Jiale Zhang, after he prohibited the latter from entering MRT Boni Station with the drink.
Cristobal called the attention of Zhang because of the station’s recent policy against bringing in drinks or any liquid following the bombings in Jolo, Sulu and the possible use of liquid bombs.
Albayalde said Cristobal demonstrated exemplary behavior during the incident.
Cristobal admitted feeling belittled after having a drink thrown at him.
The PNP chief called on foreign nationals visiting the country to respect the laws and regulations of the Philippines the same way that Filipinos observe the laws of other countries they visit.
The PNP chief added that the ban on liquids at MRT stations is no different from the ban of the same at airports, which is a part of the security measures against terrorism.
PO1 Cristobal has filed charges against Jiale Zhang including unjust vexation and disobedience of person in authority and direct assault. — Lea Ylagan
