MANILA, Philippines – The Philippine National Police (PNP) will enforce a gun ban in Metro Manila, Central Luzon (Region 3), and CALABARZON (Region 4A) and in the whole province of La Union in view of the country’s hosting of the 30th Southeast Asian (SEA) Games.
The PNP announced on Saturday (November 16) that the suspension of Permit to Carry Firearms Outside of Residence (PTCFOR) in these areas will be in effect from November 20 to December 14, 2019.
A memorandum released by the national police said the gun ban is part of the security measures it has laid for the event to ensure that the activities will be free from firearm-related incidents.
It added that the measure will be enforced to ensure the safety of the populace as well as of the local and foreign athletes.
Exempted from the gun ban are the police, soldiers and other members of law enforcement agencies in uniform, and the participants in the SEA Games shooting competition. /mbmf
