A TOTAL of 1,147 persons were arrested for their alleged involvement in illegal gambling in Central Visayas for October 2022.

The Cebu City Police Office led with the most arrests followed by the Cebu Police Provincial Office (CPPO).

Police in the region also seized a total of P132,777 in bet money during the 506 anti-illegal gambling operations they conducted.

They also launched Oplan Huli-days between October 26 and 31 where they conducted 234 operations and arrested 578 more suspects.

According to Colonel Rommel Ochave, CPPO director, they have been focusing on going after persons involved in the unauthorized numbers game after the Philippine Charity Sweepstakes Office (PCSO) complained about the drop in sales of its Small Town Lottery or swertres

This month alone, he said the CPPO arrested 64 persons allegedly involved in illegal gambling in one week.

On Saturday, November 12, the Carcar City Police Station arrested two ushers of the unauthorized swertres in Sitio Proper, Barangay Bolinawan.

The suspects were identified as Manilyn Responso, a 22-year-old resident of Barangay Candagit in the neighboring town of Sibonga; and Carina Badayos, a 29-year-old resident of Poblacion 3 in the city.

Also on Saturday, police arrested Benito Capa, a 30-year-old resident of Barangay Lut-od in the western town of Pinamungajan; and Michael Escabas, 22, and Sheryl Ignacio, 31, both residents of Barangay Bulacao, Talisay City.

Ochave said they are serious in going after those involved in the unauthorized numbers game swertres.

Authorities had announced that only the Saturn Gaming N’Amusement Corporation is authorized by the PCSO to operate swertres in Cebu Province. (AYB/PJB)
