POLICE personnel are urged to inspect areas in Cebu Province where tourists are expected to converge, a local legislator said on Wednesday, Aug. 19, 2020.
In a resolution approved on Aug. 17, Provincial Board member Thadeo Jovito Ouano (Cebu, Sixth) is asking Cebu Provincial Police Office (CPPO) Director Police Col. Roderick Mariano to place his personnel in tourist destinations in Cebu Province to ensure that health and safety protocol are observed.
Ouano said the presence of local police in tourist destinations are necessary especially that the Province is now under modified general community quarantine (MGCQ), which means less strict quarantine restrictions.
Under MGCQ, tourist destinations can now accommodate around 50 percent of their total capacity.
Ouano said with Covid-19 still present, he also urges tourists to be vigilant and follow the health and safety protocol issued by the Cebu Provincial Government including wearing of masks and face shields at all times, using air purifier, frequent disinfection and observing physical distancing.
To ensure that tourists are properly tracked, CPPO personnel are urged to strictly monitor tourist destinations especially in towns that have opened to tourists.
On the first week of April, tourism activities in Oslob, Moalboal and Camotes Island were launched and are strictly monitored by the police to prevent Covid-19 from spreading. (ANV / MMC)
