Police were called to a club in Chicago, Illinois, on Thursday, January 10, where singer R Kelly was celebrating his birthday amid a growing backlash over allegations made against him in the recent Lifetime documentary series ‘Surviving R Kelly’.
An unfazed Kelly celebrated his 52nd birthday at Chicago’s V75 Lounge by performing an acapella version of his 1994 release Bump n’ Grind — to the apparent delight of many club attendees.
The Chicago Police Department confirmed to USA Today that officers were called to the nightclub at 1 am on January 10 over reports of a “person wanted”.
Officers reportedly made contact with Kelly at the venue and determined there was no warrant out for the singer.
Local media reported that two women came forward with new allegations against the singer, following other abuse allegations that featured in Lifetime’s documentary series Surviving R. Kelly, which aired between January 3 and 5. Credit: Anthony Washington via Storyful
