Police investigating 'unexplained' death of boy, 15, found in London park

Police are investigating the 'unexplained' death of a 15-year-old boy found in a south-west London park.

Alfie Lawton was found unresponsive by members of the public in Green Lane Recreation Ground in New Malden on Monday evening at around 7pm.

The Met Police said despite efforts by the people who found him and by the London Ambulance Service, the teen was pronounced dead a short time later.

His death is being treated as unexplained but not suspicious, and a post mortem is due to be carried out.

The force said its South West Local Investigations team is leading the investigation into the circumstances of the incident and enquiries are ongoing.

Police are urging anyone who was in or around Green Lane Recreation Ground on Monday evening (8 February) or who may have spoken with Alfie in the days before his death to get in touch.

Emergency services were called to the recreation ground in New Malden, near to the Hogsmill River and a King's College London sports complex, on Monday evening.

A Kingston Police spokesperson said: "We were called at 6.59pm on Monday 8th February to reports of an unresponsive male found in Green Lane Recreation Ground, New Malden.

"We attended, and despite the best efforts of the public who found him and the London Ambulance, a 15-year-old boy was pronounced dead a short time later. His next of kin have been informed.

"The death is being treated as unexplained, but not suspicious, and a post mortem is currently being scheduled."
