QUEZON CITY, Philippines – Authorities arrested on Monday, May 21, Jordanian national Osama Mohammad Ismail Alfalah for allegedly recruiting Filipina domestic helpers to Jordan.

Three of Osama’s victims complained to authorities of his modus operandi where he would ask P5,000 placement fee from unsuspecting applicants at his office in Ermita, Manila.

“Dito naghinala ang mga biktima kung bakit sila hiningan ng placement fee samantalang alam nila na libre ang domestic helpers at walang binabayarang placement fee. Based on that, nag-file sila ng complaint at inimbestigahan natin,” said PSupt. Roque Merdegia Jr, chief of the PNP Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG) Anti-Transnational Crome Unit (ATCU.)

(When they were made to pay a placement fee, they began to get suspicious because they know that domestic helpers were not supposed to pay placement fees. Based on that they filed a complaint which is now being investigated.)

Based on initial investigation, Osama is not a registered recruiter at the Philippine Overseas Employment Administration (POEA.)

Authorities are still investigating Osama’s other alleged  operations in the country.

“Iimbestigahan din natin ang report na mayroon syang itinatago o ibinabahay na mga aplikante mula sa probinsya,”Merdegia said.

(We will also look into reports that he is purportedly hiding or living with some applicants from the province.)

He is now facing charges of large-scale illegal recruitment and estafa. — Lea Ylagan | UNTV News & Rescue
