FOURTEEN persons allegedly involved in an illegal cockfight, or “tigbakay,” were rounded by police in Sitio Cabitoonan, Barangay Pondol in the western town of Balamban on Saturday morning, January 21, 2023.

However, they were able to arrest Marvillo Tribunalo De Jesus, 42; Jason Labrador Bulacan, 36; Pedro Tupla Blanco, 71; Rey Legaspino Urbina, 47; Andres Melgar Serundo, 62; Rogelio Bartolen Rentigrado Jr., 29; Noel Pinunggan Cordero, 42; Arnil Lingas Cuñado, 31; Roy Banate Cereño, 49; Agapito Pormento Pieda, 41; Lucia Malinao Yap, 47; Vergilio Lucica Malirog, 50; Lucio Dequilla Suliva, 54; and Zaldy Baay Senolos, 54.

According to Hife, they received a complaint in the morning that many people had gathered in the area, which was celebrating its fiesta, for a cockfight.

When police officers arrived around 10 a.m., the crowd quickly dispersed.

He said a chase ensued, but Rebucias got away, while the 14 men were not so lucky.

“Sayo kaayong nagsultada. Daghang reklamo among nadawat. Naa sa kapin 200 to ka sabongero nagkatibuwagsa pagabot namo sa area,” Hife said.

(The cockfights started really early. We received many complaints. We found more than 200 people who ran in different directions when we arrived in the area.)

The police chief said Rebucias and the 14 suspects will be charged with violating Presidential Decree 1602, or the anti-gambling law. (GPL)
