A TOTAL of 1,254 loose firearms were seized while 265 individuals were arrested in Central Visayas during the election gun ban, which started on Jan. 9, 2022 and ended on Wednesday, June 8.

The firearms were confiscated and the violators were arrested in checkpoints conducted by different units under the Police Regional Office in Central Visayas (PRO 7) and the Armed Forces of the Philippines. These checkpoints were sanctioned by the Commission on Elections.

PRO 7 Director Brig. Gen. Roque Eduardo Vega was proud of their accomplishments, saying the general elections in the region had been peaceful and the polls had gone on smoothly.

“The PRO7 has achieved the objective of a ‘no failure of election’ through systematic security contingency preparations, public safety management, and crowd control,” Vega said.

The police official thanked residents of Central Visayas for cooperating with the authorities.
