Pope Francis Greets Migrant Children in Lesbos

Pope Francis greeted migrant children during his trip to a refugee camp in Lesbos, Greece, on Sunday, December 5.

In a speech, the pope said: “I am here to let you know that I am near you, and I say this with my heart.”

Pope Francis said “migration is not an issue for the Middle East and Northern Africa, for Europe, or Greece – it is an issue for the world.” Referring to the situation as the “shipwreck of civilization,” he added that “when the poor are rejected, peace is rejected.” Credit: Iliana Magra via Storyful
