NO ADVERSITY is stopping a poultry and livestock business from expanding.
JM Poultry and Livestock Supply Inc. opened its 100th store in Barangay Jubay, Liloan, Cebu on Friday, Nov. 14, 2020.
This is the store’s second branch in Liloan that targets to cater to the market in the northern part of Cebu.
The business, which was founded by Dr. Avelino de Manuel, started 36 years ago with the mission of helping swine and poultry farmers augment their livelihood.
“As a veterinarian, I can see their problems and concerns in raising pigs and poultry. It came to my mind to help them by supplying them with good and quality products,” said de Manuel, chairman of JM Poultry and Livestock Inc.
The opening of the 100th store also coincided with de Manuel’s birthday.
He believes that expanding his business will allow them to better serve the industry and their customers by making their products accessible to them.
Besides having a presence in Cebu, JM Poultry and Livestock Supply also has branches
in other areas in the Visayas and Mindanao.
De Manuel said 75 to 80 percent of the store’s income come from the feeds business, particularly from their Unifeeds brand.
Raising livestock and poultry, according to de Manuel, is more than just a hobby. He said many have relied on this livelihood to support their families and the growing food industry.
But like any other ventures, de Manuel’s business also faced challenges, especially during this time of global health and economic crisis.
He said they boosted their investments in safety and security. He considered his employees as the store’s biggest asset.
In its every branch, de Manuel said they implemented government-imposed health guidelines such as hand sanitization, social distancing and installation of plastic barriers. (KFD)
