PRESIDENT Rodrigo Duterte in his New Year's message has urged Filipinos to cherish experiences in 2021, including the "struggles and victories" amid the Covid-19 pandemic and the recent devastation brought about by Typhoon Odette (international name: Rai).

"Indeed, we have been through many challenging times but our distinct resilience and bayanihan spirit allowed us to prevail and come out stronger," the President said in his New Year's message released by Malacañang on December 31, 2021.

In his message, President Duterte mentioned the "dedication and courage" of the medical and essential frontliners, uniformed services, civilian personnel and volunteers.

"Every day, we continue to witness the indomitable spirit of the Filipino that adapts, endures and triumphs over all adversities," he said.

This is the last New Year's message of President Duterte, who will leave Malacañang on July 1. The Filipino electorate will elect his successor on May 9.

President Duterte has been visiting places in Visayas and Mindanao that were devastated by Typhoon Odette, leading the distribution of relief goods to affected residents.

"As we take a whole-of-nation approach to recover and build back better, may we all be inspired by the promise of new beginnings that the New Year brings," President Duterte said. (KAL)
