Private vehicles no longer allowed to enter Carbon Market

PRIVATE vehicles will not be allowed to enter or park within the Carbon Public Market starting Monday, August 23, 2021.

Market administrator Irvin Cabales said they want to decongest the area, thus only delivery trucks will be allowed to enter.

He said the Market Operation Division (MOD) will implement the rules, which stressed that private vehicles parked within the Carbon complex will be clamped by Cebu City Transportation Office personnel.

Cabales added that the MOD will also designate several exit points to ensure that marketgoers can easily leave the area as soon as they are done buying goods.

Personnel of the MOD and the Carbon Police Station have vowed to strictly implement the basic health protocols to prevent the spread of the virus that causes the coronavirus disease (Covid-19).

On Sunday, August 22, the market will be closed to the public from 8 a.m. to 3 a.m. to make way for city personnel to disinfect the facility.

The market will be reopened to the public at 4 a.m. on Monday. It will again close at 9 p.m. in compliance with the city’s strict curfew policy.

Private vehicles that are caught parking within the Carbon complex will be clamped, warned Lyntoni Alburo, head of the Cebu City Transportation Office.

Alburo said private vehicle owners can park at designated pay parking areas located at the Compania Maritima.

Inside the public market, market officials are planning to establish multiple entrance and exit areas for market patrons as one way of preventing Covid-19 infection.

“We are doing this to ensure that our vendors can continue to do business but at the same time, protecting them and their customers from getting infected,” Cabales said. (PAC/JKV)
